Biden And Xi Jinping Speak For The First Time In Months Amid Fraying U.S.-China Ties

President Biden delivers remarks about the federal response to Hurricane Ida on September 2, 2021 in Washington. On Thursday, Biden and Chinese President Xi Jinping spoke on the phone for only the second time since Biden took office.

In only their second call since Biden took office, the two leaders spoke about "the responsibility of both nations to ensure competition does not veer into conflict," according to the White House.
